LIHEAP, a federal program, helps low-income households pay energy bills, manage energy crises, and arrange for weatherization and energy-related home repairs. It can be a critical resource for staying warm in the winter months. Those eligible may receive a one-time payment for heating costs between October and May.

Summit Natural Gas of Missouri’s Cold Weather Program

From November through March, Summit offers a Cold Weather Program designed to help customers avoid disconnection and stay warm through winter. The program gives past-due customers additional options—even if service has already been disconnected. To enroll, you can call 800-927-0787 to determine eligibility and make an initial payment. Once enrolled, the remaining past-due balance is spread out evenly over the next eleven months. Each month, you’ll pay both your installment toward the past-due amount and your current monthly bill. This seasonal plan provides a structured, longer-term path to get caught up and maintain service during the coldest months of the year.

Budget Billing

Take the guesswork out of your bills. Budget Billing offers greater predictability for your bill by spreading your natural gas costs throughout the year. When enrolled, you pay a fixed amount each month based on your energy usage history. This is especially helpful during winter months—when natural gas bills tend to be higher—to help alleviate the stress of unexpected spikes.

We know not everyone likes managing their bills online, so we also offer options to pay your bill by phone, by mail, or in person at an authorized retail location.

Tips for Cutting Energy Usage

There are plenty of small things you can do to be proactive and help keep your winter energy consumption down. For home improvements, consider installing a high-efficiency furnace or water heater, caulking gaps around windows, and applying weatherstripping to door frames to keep warm air inside. In your day-to-day life, things like lowering the thermostat when you’re sleeping or away, setting ceiling fans to spin clockwise, or opening your curtains on sunny days can all help reduce your energy costs.
