Summit Team Member Serves Community by Delivering Meals on Wheels

April 10, 2020

Lebanon, MO – COVID-19 has hit senior residents hard throughout the country. That’s where Phil Marcum, Summit’s Senior Manager of Business Development, steps in.

Commitment to customers and the communities we serve is one of our core values at Summit. That’s why, when Phil learned the Hughes Center was in need of volunteers to deliver meals on wheels in Lebanon, he immediately reached out.

Using his company provided Volunteer Time Off benefit, Phil worked with the organization to deliver a week’s supply of meals to approximately 50 different locations, feeding some of the county’s most vulnerable residents. The organization specializes in meal delivery and transportation service for seniors and people with disabilities.

Everyone is concerned about possible infection with the coronavirus, but the health stakes are highest for older adults. Aging of the immune system and underlying medical conditions make people 60 and up more vulnerable to severe respiratory illness from COVID-19. With the precautions taken by the Hughes Center Meals on Wheels, Phil was able to deliver meals to doorsteps with no direct contact. Safely allowing seniors to eat without having to risk exposure.

Thank you for helping feed and protect your community, Phil!
